I wish I was writing under better circumstances, but I must be

My mother and elders of El Calaboz, since July have been the
targets of
numerous threats and harassments by the Border Patrol, Army
Corps of
Engineers, NSA, and the U.S. related to the proposed building of
a fence
on their levee.
Since July, they have been the targets of numerous telephone
calls,
unexpected and uninvited visits on their lands, informing them
that they
will have to relinquish parts of their land grant holdings to the
border
fence buildup. The NSA demands that elders give up their lands
to
build the levee, and further, that they travel a distance of 3 miles,
to go
through checkpoints, to walk, recreate, and to farm and herd
goats and
cattle, ON THEIR OWN LANDS.
This threat against indigenous people, life ways and lands has
been
very very serious and stress inducing to local leaders, such as
Dr. Eloisa
Garcia Tamez, who has been in isolation from the larger
indigenous
rights community due to the invisibility of indigenous people of
South
Texas and Northern Tamaulipas to the larger social justice
conversation
regarding the border issues.
However recent events, of the last 5 days cause us to feel that
we are
in urgent need of immediate human rights observers in the area,
deployed by all who can help as soon as possible–immediate
relief.
My mother informed me, as I got back into cell range out of
Redford,
TX, on Monday, November 13, that Army Corps of Engineers,
Border Patrol
and National Security Agency teams have been going house to
house, and
calling on her personal office phone, her cell phone and in other
venues, tracking down and enclosing upon the people and
telling them that
they have no other choice in this matter. They are telling elders
and
other vulnerable people that “the wall is going on these lands
whether
you like it or not, and you have to sell your land to the U.S.”
My mother, Eloisa Garcia Tamez, Lipan Apache (descendant of
Mexican
Chiricahua descent elder, Aniceto Garcia, who gave her
traditional
indigenous birth welcoming ceremony and lightning ceremony),
is resisting the
forced occupation with firm resistance. She has already had two
major
confrontations with NSA since July–one in her office at the
University
of Texas at Brownsville, where she is the Director of a Nursing
Program and where she conducts research on diabetes among
indigenous people
of the MX-US binational region of South Texas and Tamaulipas.
She reports that some land owners in the rancheria area of El
Calaboz,
La Paloma and El Ranchito, under pressure to sell to the U.S.
without
prior and informed consent, have already signed over their
lands, due to
their ongoing state of impoverishment and exploitation in the
area
under colonization, corporatism, NAFTA and militarization.
This is an outrage, but more, this is a significant violation of
United
Nations Declaration on Rights of Indigenous People, recently
ratified
and accepted by all UN nations, except the U.S., Canada, and
Australia.
Furthermore, it is a violation of the United Nations CERD,
Committee
on Elimination of Racism and Racial Discrimination.
My mother is under great stress and crisis, unknowing if the
Army
soldiers and the NSA agents will be forcibly demanding that she
sign
documents. She reports that they are calling her at all hours,
seven days a
week. She has firmly told them not to call her anymore, nor to
call her
at all hours of the night and day, nor to call on the weekends any
further.She asked them to meet with her in a public space and to
tell their
supervisors to come.They refuse to do so. Instead, they
continue to
harass and intimidate.
At this time, due to the great stress the elders are currently
under,
communicated to me, because they are being demanded under
covert
tactics, to relinquish indigenous lands, I feel that I MUST call
upon my
relatives, friends, colleagues, especially associates in Texas
within
driving distance to the Rio Grande valley region, and involved in
indigenous
rights issues, to come forth and aid us.
Please! Please help indigenous women land title holders
resisting
forced occupation in their own lands! Please do not hesitate to

Jamie Leigh Jones was a 20-year-old woman working in Iraq for
a subsidiary of Halliburton when she was drugged and brutally
gang-raped by several co-workers.
The next day, Halliburton told her that if she left Iraq to get
medical treatment, she could lose her job.1
Jamie's story gets even more horrific: For the last two years,
she's been asking the US government to hold the perpetrators
accountable. But the men who raped her may never be brought
to justice because Halliburton and other contractors in Iraq
aren't subject to US or Iraqi laws. They can't be tried for a crime
in any court.2
This is one of the most disturbing stories we have come across
in a while. We're calling on Congress to investigate Jamie's
case, hold those involved accountable, and bring US
contractors under the jurisdiction of US law so this can't happen
again. If hundreds of thousands of us speak out against this

graphic description of a brutal attack. But when we heard this
story, we knew we had to do something about it.
Here's how Jamie described what happened after the attack:
I awoke the next morning in the barracks to find my naked body
battered and bruised. I was still groggy from whatever had been
put in my drink. I was bleeding... After getting to the clinic and
having a rape kit performed...I was locked in a container with no
food, no way to call my parents, and was placed under armed
guard by Halliburton.3
Jamie's attackers aren't the only ones exploiting a legal loophole
to get away with their violent crimes. Another female employee
of Halliburton says she was raped by her co-workers in Iraq.4
Employees of Blackwater, another private contracting firm in
Iraq, were accused of killing innocent Iraqi civilians, and that
incident turned into an international scandal. Worst of all, they
may never be punished.5
Private contractors in Iraq are making massive amounts of
money, operating above the law and are accountable to no one.
This has to stop.
Congress needs to act now to bring these contractors under the
rule of law. If they don't, nothing will prevent a case like Jamie's
from happening again. No man or woman working in Iraq should
have to fear that they can be attacked without consequences.

As I entered into the EVEREST report, I glancing at the heading
"STUDY: VOTING SYSTEMS VULNERABLE.” This is no

What I DON'T LIKE = 1. Centralized tabulation
Why I DON”T LIKE IT = Centralized tabulation is out of the hands
of citizens.
What I DON'T LIKE = 2. Optiscam.
Why I DON”T LIKE IT = Optiscams use software.
What I DON'T LIKE = 3. Eliminating small 1-4 precinct voting
locations.
Why I DON”T LIKE IT = Centralized, out of citizens
neighborhoods. What about small rural polls? Will we have
professional poll workers? What new large buildings will they
find to have these mega-polls in? Is this meant to enrich the
corporations, will we vote at Wal-Mart, and just happen to be
able to shop then too? Will this further erode the local
communities, so the people in a neighborhood never come
together under one roof again for the purpose of democracy?
Must everything be “Super-Sized” like McDonalds?
"The researchers in the Ohio study did not address the issue of
the probability of attack, leaving that to the determination of
state and local officials. The researchers commented that with
the lack of technical measures in voting system design, its
integrity “is provided purely by the integrity and honesty of

The Ohio Election Justice Campaign (as well as “Ohio
Honest Elections”) continues to bring attention to the many
citizen documented alleged violations of Ohio law by Ohio
election officials. We have actively been seeking to get those
individuals in positions of law enforcement such as police,
highway patrol, prosecutors, and even the past and current Ohio
Attorney General to investigate. These same issues have been
addressed to the Secretary of State, and to her staff members.
The SOS has the power for firing and hiring, and to look into
"Wrong doing and wrong doers who are STILL in positions of
authority”

elections on the new HAVA mandated voting systems have
gone as smoothly as they have in light of these findings,”

Paper Ballots at the Precinct, Canada does it in one night.
Central tabulate in a timely fashion? I don't think they can do it.

have 6 days to count the vote, what a crock! Timely my butt, it'll
completely take
the wind out of voting day fever. 6 whole days to rig the vote!
On Fred Anderly's show "Open Line" today 12-14-2007, he was
making the point that J K Blackwell encouraged Elections
officials to go with the optiscams, BUT they decided on DREs. I
thought that was weird because I believe I had heard J K
Blackwell had stock in DREs and wanted DREs. I called Cliff
Arnebeck and he said, "YES J K Blackwell wanted Optiscams." I
have since gotten in contact with Victoria Parks who looked it
up and said, "Yes that is true BUT, J K Blackwell eventually
pushed for the Diebold "Acc-U-vote TSX" perhaps because he
had approximately $5000 invested in Diebold."
